TRAFFIC - WHAT IS IT AND WHY YOU NEED IT FOR YOUR BUSINESS

What is Website Traffic?

Definition: Website traffic refers to web users who visit a website. Web traffic is measured in visits, sometimes called "sessions," and is a common way to measure an online business effectiveness at attracting an audience.

Why do you need traffic and why is it important?

Understanding your website’s traffic is a fundamental step towards optimization.  When updating content, you must keep in mind who the audience will be and which offers will entice them.  Additionally, the quality of website visitors can change depending on their source.

Types of traffic you can generate for your website

There are two types of traffic you can drive to your website, namely, direct traffic and organic traffic. Direct traffic is defined as visits with no referring website.  When a visitor follows a link from one website to another, the site of origin is considered the referrer. Organic traffic is what most marketers strive to increase.  This traffic is defined as visitors coming from a search engine, such as Google or Bing. Organic traffic deals directly with SEO.  The better you are ranking for competitive keywords, the more organic traffic will result.

As an affiliate marketer you may not neccesarily have your own site but you do promote affiliate links related to your niche product or market and posting a link is never enough, you need to send consistent good quality traffic to your links in order to be effective and make money online.

The best way for affiliate marketers, especially beginners, to drive traffic is to use a traffic exchange site.

What is traffic exchange? Traffic exchanges (TEs) were created with the lofty goal of allowing users to gain a steady stream of traffic to their websites or affiliate links without the cost of PPC and the difficulties of SEO.The philosophy of a traffic exchange is simple: You visit someone else’s website and, in exchange, someone else visits your website. The traffic exchange provides a simple control panel for performing this function while, at the same time, ensuring that users don’t cheat. Virtually every traffic exchange (and there are many), have their own unique twists and themes, but the basic principle is absolutely the same. The majority of traffic exchanges are free to join and, once you’ve opened an account with one, it takes just a few moments to get started.

One of my favourite Traffic Exchange sites is Hungry for Hits. I recommend the traffic exchanges listed when you click on the image below because they are a free, fun way to drive traffic. Most include incentives to help you gain the necessary credits needed to advertise your sites on a daily basis.
